WEST COAST RADIO TOUR: Day 1 - Seattle, Portland and Weed

Devin, Brian and I flew into Seattle yesterday to start off the west coast run of the radio promo tour.  Since LOP as a band is a new act, putting a face to the name is very important when it comes down to choosing which songs to place in rotation every week.

7:00 am:   I warmed up a hot cup of tea and inserted my CD to start a vocal warm up in the room.  Brian was filming this which was very awkward, and I highly doubt the neighbors were happy with me when I was reaching the higher notes.  A quick shower, some e-mails, repacking all the merch and nonsense and quick breakfast and we were officially on our way.

9:30 am:  The first stop was Kiss FM Seattle where we met with Eric (program director) and a bunch of awesome girls that either are interning or work at the Top40 Station.  We hung for a bit, played the track and then translated “Turn Off the Lights,” into an awesome acoustic version which has a more laid back, teen-like romance feel to it.  It went over great, and everyone was very excited about the sold out show in Seattle coming up in September.

12:00 pm:  3 hour drive to Portland, Oregon

3:00 pm:  We finally arrive at our next station which is Z100 in Portland, Oregon.  We played the song again for Tommy and Brett and signed some posters and talked about the track for a bit.  This was a completely different vibe than the previous station, a lot more business.  I got to read some lingers (“Hey, This is Robb from Lights Over Paris and you’re listening to Z100!”) and we took off.

4:15 pm:  We started the next drive which was approximately 7 hours.  Along the way we stopped at Verizon and picked up a MIFI card so I could be online while traveling to our next destination.  I was able to get a lot of misc work done as well as jump on iChat to co-write with other songwriters on a few tracks.

11:45pm:  Finally arrived at our last stop of the day, Weed, CA.  Yes, it’s exactly as it sounds.  Horrible!  You should see the hotel room we are in.  The door key is a USB stick and the telephone is something you might find in your great grandparents house back in 1984.  I am tempted to hit the treadmill, but so so tired..

12:36am:  I have to be up at 6:00 am to get ready for the day and drive 4.5 hours to Santa Rosa in the morning for the next station.  Facebook, and bed!
